Summer Camp at KViK

KViK conducted a 1 month Summer Camp for SSLC students of Kethamaranahalli and Uttarahalli schools in Bengaluru, from 9th April to 11th May. The camp was initiated and coordinated by our long time partner NGO Dream Path foundation, led by Mrs. Krupa Chakravarty and Mrs. Veena Prasad. The full time Residential camp was attended by 9 boys. The purpose of the camp was to create awareness about career opportunities in vocational skills and introduce the kids to various skills, and let them spend their summer vacation in a fruitful way. The cost of the training and dormitory was sponsored by 8 public spirited and socially conscieous citizens.

Students enjoyed their training at KViK availing the dormitory facility with food and stay. They loved the training methodology at KViK of “Learning by doing” which makes learning a fun. For example, in Electrical training, they installed and serviced household appliances like fan, iron box, mixer, etc. By working on Plumbing, they learnt how to instal a wash basin, lay pipes, fix water leakages and blockages. In Basic Computer session, they learnt operating laptops, MS Word, Excel, Power Point, email, Google search, Letter writing etc. Spoken English sessions helped them to brush up grammar and learn story telling, self Introduction and simple conversation. Apart from these skills kids had additional classes for Yoga and soft skills on communication skills, life skills and group discussions.

In the concluding ceremony on 11th may, the boys were handed out certificates at the hands of Sponsors and mentors of Dreampath foundation. Parents and family members of boys also attended the function. They were delighted to see the boys speak confidently and sharing their learning experience at KViK. A few excerpts:

“I thought this summer camp would be another class room learning. I was surprised and delighted when I found that 90% training was learning by actually doing troubleshooting of electrical or plumbing problems. Now I am confident of repairing many household gadgets when they break down”  –  Abhijit.

“I enjoyed learning various skills in KViK. The group activity, staying together in dormitory, watching TV in the evening, were all fun. The food in the dorm was good too!”  –  Ranjit

” The training was fun and useful. Trainers Ms. Kavitha and Mr. Ningaraj made learning easy and enjoyable. Visit to Sir Vishweshwaraiah science museum was a bouns”. –  Ambarish

The sponsors Mrs. Kamala , Dr. Madhavi, Mrs. Madhushree, Mr. Ningaraj and mentors of Dream path foundation Mrs. Veena Prasad, Mrs. Annam and Mrs. Jyothi Shanbhag expressed their deep satisfaction on the outcome of training and assured that they would support more such camps in the future. They also gave some tips to the boys on how they should utilise their newly learnt skills in their lives and career. Mrs. Kamala narrated how the she decided to sponsor training the moment she heard the word “skill training” and emphasised the need for more such programmes for all school and colleges to make the youth employable.

Some of the family members also spoke eloquently about the new competencies their wards have acquired by the summer camp and the thanked KViK, Dream path foundation and the sponsors. The function was also graced by KViK core team attended by members of KViK core team Mrs. Vaishali and Mrs. Vandana and director Veena Hegde. The CEO Mr. Subbu Hegde thanked the Dream path foundation, sponors, trainers and the staff for making the camp a phenomenal success. He requested students and their family members to spread the word and motivate more youngsters to take up vocational training as a career option.



Summer camp for SSLC students

Kaushalya Vikas Kendra in association with Dreampath Foundation started its one month residential summer camp for SSLC Students of Govt High School, Kethmaranhalli, Rajajinagar and Uttarahalli on 9th April. Summer camp includes training students on various skills like – Electrical, Plumbing, Computer, Spoken English etc. Hostel facilities have been provided including food and recreation.

Parents came along with their children to leave their wards at the center. They were walked through the facility, given briefing about the courses and shared few testimonials/success stories of the ex students of KViK. After seeing the facility and understanding the training methodology they were satisfied enough to leave their children. Few glimpse of their intro session.

5th batch of KViK students placed!

In tune with the past record in last 10 months, four students of KViK have been placed in well paying jobs immediately after they finished their training. They were part of the larger batch 20 students for “Electronics”, seen with the trainers in the picture below. While 16 of them went back to school/college for furthering their studies after the training, the four joined the “Computer Hardware and repair of Electronics” course in KViK. Reliance ResQ once again came forward and absorbed our trainees.

4th batch convocation!

24th May 2014 was a memorable day for KViK. On this day, 17 students of Electronics 4th batch and 3 students of 3rd batch received their certificate in vocational Training from a very important guest, Mr. Avinash Chintawar, Vice-President, Bosch Limited, Bangalore! Mr. and Mrs. Chintawar, visited KViK on a special invitation by Mr. Subbu Hegde. Mr. Chintawar, who spoke at the end of the function, admired the quick progress made by students in just a month in developing both hard and soft skills.
